Four Killed In Moscow Plane Crash



A passenger airliner careered off the runway at Russia's third-busiest airport and partly onto a highway while landing on Saturday, broke into pieces and caught fire, killing at least four people .
Officials said there were eight people aboard the Tu-204 belonging to Russian airline Red Wings that was flying back from the Czech Republic without passengers to its home at Vnukovo Airport.

The commercial city of Aba, Abia State was thrown into a heavy pandemonium on Christmas day following the mysterious death of an old blind woman in a fire outbreak.



 
The incident, which occoured in Ogbor Hills, a suburb of the city was said to have started from one of the back rooms of one of the building located at 64/95 Ikot Ekpene Road at about 4.45pm when most residents had gone out for xmas celebrations.

Man shot to death at home. His pregnant wife arrested for his murder


Hadiza Afegbua, (pictured above right) yesterday December 28th, was arrested by police at Utako Division, Abuja, for the murder of her husband, Ibrahim Abutu, (pictured above with their child).

Ibrahim was killed in the Parakou Crescent home he shared with Hadiza and their child at Wuse II, Abuja, yesterday morning.

When police arrived at the couple's residence, Hadiza told them she was in the kitchen when she heard a gun shot and rushed towards the direction, only to find her husband shot. She and a few neighbors rushed him to the hospital where he eventually died.

Kogi State Governor involved in auto crash. ADC, driver die instantly



The Governor of Kogi State, Captain Idris Wada and his aides were involved in a fatal car accident this afternoon along the bad Abuja - Lokoja expressway. His ADC, Idris Mohammed and a driver died instantly while the governor was rushed to the Emergency Ward of the Kogi State Specialist Hospital in Lokoja. He was later moved to the Government House Hospital where he's said to be in a coma.

The governor and his convoy were returning from an official assignment and were close to Lokoja when the accident occurred.

Odemwingie may face disciplinary actions for comments on Twitter



Osaze Odemwingie recently lashed out at coach Stephen Keshi and members of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) on his twitter page for not being included in the African Nations Cup squad. (If you missed it, read it HERE .

A top NFF official told reporters this week that Osaze would not be allowed to go unpunished for the comments he made on Twitter. He said the case will be referred to the federation's disciplinary committee to investigate and make recommendations to the executive committee for the next line of action. Governor Fashola vows to deal with owner of stored fire crackers



Lagos state Governor, Babatunde Fashola, yesterday visited the site of the boxing day firecracker explosion that razed about 15 buildings and killed an 11 year old boy.  Fashola said he plans to punish the owner of the store on Oko Awo street where the fire crackers were stored.

“In order to make quick business, we have lost a life, we lost property and all of us are in danger. All of these items are under one form of prohibition or the other and we have men and women at our various entry and exit points. How did they get in? How did they enter? Who imported them and who cleared them? Who approved them to come in. Those are very serious issues we must also ask ourselves" Fashola said

Nelson Mandela discharged from hospital



After almost three weeks in the hospital, former South African president, Nelson Mandela was discharged today Wednesday December 26th. The 94 year old was admitted to the hospital on Saturday December 8th to receive treatment for a lung infection and surgery to remove gallstones, which the doctors say was successful.

Christmas Eve Tragedy : 5 Teens Drown In Mysterious Circumstances



Five teenagers have been reported to have drowned in Anambra state. The children, four boys and a girl went swimming for fun in the Omambala river at Umuezeanam, Anambra west, where they were later allegedly found to have drowned.

Four of the victims who are from the same family including the girl among them, and their friend, had travelled with their parents from Lagos to the village for the Christmas celebration when they met their untimely end on Christmas Eve.

4 South Koreans Kidnapped in Bayelsa, Released



Four South Korean employees of Hyundai Heavy Industries have been freed days after being abducted by gunmen in Bayelsa state, South South Nigeria.

Gunmen kidnapped the four foreigners and two Nigerians working on Hyundai’s operations in the Niger Delta region on Monday.
Officials in Seoul said in a statement that the four Koreans had been freed, but gave no details of the fate of the Nigerian workers.

South Korea’s Foreign Ministry said the four workers were released after “persistent persuasion.”
The four hostages had been handed over to South Korean officials in Nigeria late on Friday, Yonhap news agency and YTN TV said.

There was no immediate comment from either the South Korean government or Hyundai Heavy Industries.

WAEC RECORDS 62.03% FAILURE AS BLIND STUDENTS TOP PERFORMANCE LIST + 47289 RESULT WITHHELD



The West African Examinations Council, yesterday in Yaba, Lagos, said that about 62.03 percent of students who wrote the November/December 2012 West Africa Seniour School Certificate Examination failed the test as only 37.97 percent or 150,615 obtained five credits including English Language and Mathematics.
