Religious Violence in Kano: over 4 dead, Church, shops burnt

No fewer than four persons were killed in religious violence in Bichi Local Government Area of Kano State on Thursday.

Also, 15 shops were reportedly razed, a church burnt and several people were said to have been wounded.

This was revealed by eyewitnesses who told reporters in Kano, that the violence erupted as a result of a communication breakdown between a non-Muslim tailor and a Muslim man over an inscription on a dress designed by the tailor.

According to some of the residents, the tailor had allegedly omitted two letters in the inscription, which altered the meaning and believed to be insulting to Muslims.

State Police Commissioner, Ibrahim Idris, maintained that there were no casualties and that the situation had been brought under control.
