Executive Secretary of Nigeria Christian Pilgrims
Commission, John Kennedy Opara has assured Nigerians of the safety of their
fellow country men and women who are on pilgrimage in Israel.
This follows the escalation of violence between the state of
Israel and Hamas militants in Gaza which has seen rockets fired into Israel and
Gaza as well resulting in casualties in both sides.
He gave the assurance at a Press Conference in the
Commission's Headquarters in Nigeria's capital Abuja, adding that Nigerian
security agencies were working with their counterparts in Israel to ensure the
safety of Nigerian Pilgrims.
Over 5,000 pilgrims have so far been airlifted to Israel and
about 4,000 have returned safely to Nigeria.
