A 62-year-old man, Alabi Ibrahim, was on Monday arraigned
before a Magistrate Court in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital South West
Nigeria for allegedly defiling his 10-year-old step daughter.
Online news medium, Premium Times reports that the suspect
was charged to court by the Ogun State Commissioner of Police for having
unlawful carnal knowledge of the 10-year-old.
Earlier, the man had evaded police investigation, taking
refuge in the house of a top politician in the town.
The police later caught up with him; and at the conclusion
of investigations, the suspect was charged to court.
A Non-Governmental Organisation, Child Protection Network,
CPN, had reported the alleged rape scandal to the police. The police conducting
investigations on the matter found out from the victim that she had been abused
by her step father.
Mr. Ibrahim’s step daughter said he had been sleeping with
her for a very long time. She said she has lost count of the number of times.
“Daddy always comes when mummy is not around, and always
tells me not to tell anybody, else I would die,” she told police interrogators.
The Magistrate, M.O Olayinka adjourned hearing till November
29.
